Baton Rouge Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh

December 27, 2022

Frankincense and myrrh, two esteemed gifts obtained from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable healing partners! Both have been tapped throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more assets tackle issues with a variety of health conditions, many that Medical Spine and Sports Injury and Rehab Centers knows afflict our Baton Rouge chiropractic patients and/or loved ones who may want to understand better!

THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh

Chinese medicine values frankincense and myrrh for their extensively positive health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects prevented growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are parts of an anti-tumor drug for a variety of cancers with recent research showing its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that nourish tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was reduced, and pathological structure was reduced with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to help symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.  (3) The frankincense/myrrh comination is a winning/healing one!

NEUROPATHIC PAIN

Medical Spine and Sports Injury and Rehab Centers welcomes combinations of treatments to help our Baton Rouge chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine treats diabetic neuropathy, a critical complication of diabetes and cause of kidney disease, by controlling pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is explained as being able to stimulate blood and dissipate blood stasis. The combination was put to the test and found to reduce neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to averting TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Medical Spine and Sports Injury and Rehab Centers knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting to know, but we want to share the whole story if only to get to the point that frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great result!
