The Spinal Connections: Spine & Sports Rehab Center Delivers Spinal Manipulation Which Shows Lower Limb Strength Improvement

It’s all connected. The spine, the hips, the knees, the legs, the feet, the toes. In recent studies, the connection between spinal manipulation and the relief of lower limb pain and weakness  as well as imbalance are investigated. Spine & Sports Rehab Center has seen such relief. The research adds to the talk with such Baton Rouge chiropractic patients that there’s hope for their condition.

LOWER LIMB STRENGTH IMPROVEMENT

Baton Rouge chiropractic patients come to Spine & Sports Rehab Center with typically one pain issue and do not even notice other issues until we uncover them together during the spinal examination. We are manytimes detectives together! The chiropractic examination can discover clues to the condition at hand, clues that often are painful or weak and, thankfully, also resolve with chiropractic treatment. Lower limb weakness is often disregarded by back and leg pain patients. Pain is the attention-getter. One report reported that a single spinal manipulation improved muscle strength (for 30 minutes) and corticospinal excitability (for 60 minutes) to ankle plantar flexor muscles in Taekwondo athletes. (1) Another paper of spinal manipulation’s effect on lower limb strength of healthy people showed immediate increase in muscle strength after just one session. The chiropractic spinal manipulation treatment helps relieve the pain and increase the lower limb weakness. The effect is found to be immediate with only one spinal manipulation. For patients who have hip and knee weakness yet otherwise healthy, the strength improvement is even bigger. (2) Patients at Spine & Sports Rehab Center have noticed just such improvement!

LOWER LIMB IMBALANCE IMPROVEMENT

Other Baton Rouge chiropractic patients with limb imbalances in whom one leg seems stronger than the other have noticed relief with their Baton Rouge chiropractic spinal manipulation, too. They may know they have it or don’t realize it until we complete the exam together. Once discovered, limb strength imbalances of a minimum of 15% in hip flexion, extension, abduction or knee flexion cared for with spinal manipulation improved compared to placebo treatment. These strength improvements were noted after just one lumbar spine manipulation session. (3) Spinal mobilization enhanced hip flexor strength and performance in asymptomatic young adults. (4) These are positive results for our Baton Rouge chiropractic patients!
