Headaches and migraines are never
welcome. Headache sufferers are typically quite ready for tips on how to avoid them. Migraine (a primary
headache) sufferers over the age of 50 find themselves part of a global
community with migraine as a leading cause of
disability. (1) Spine & Sports Rehab Center offers
some prevention tips and treatment relief suggestions especially
for our Baton Rouge headache and migraine sufferers.
DIET AND WEIGHT
A healthy diet nourishes the body and the mind. Researchers
have noticed that migraine triggers appear
in a variety of forms - environmental, hormonal, and dietary.
A high-quality diet effectively helps handle
migraine. Further, and more expressly, women
with chronic migraine ate a lower diet
quality than that of women with episodic
migraine. (2) A new study was
even more specific with the kind of diet beneficial to
migraine patients, particularly overweight folks. A very low-calorie ketogenic diet was revealed
to be preventive of episodic migraines. Effectiveness
was observed within one month of the diet change.
(3) Spine & Sports Rehab Center is not suggesting that any
of our patients begin a certain type of
diet now! If a Baton Rouge headache sufferer wants
to explore a new diet, Spine & Sports Rehab Center is here to chat
and decide which diet (if any special one) is proper.
NUTRITION: Vitamin D
The same goes for vitamin D supplementation. Vitamin D deficiency has been reported
in 45% to 100% of migraine sufferers. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant features
of vitamin D have initiated
a look at including it in the care and prevention of headache and migraine.
One study reported that trial doses of 1000-4000 IU per day reduced
the frequency of migraine including the routine drug
therapy. More research needs to be completed,
but vitamin D supplementation appears encouraging.

individual Baton Rouge chiropractic patient and recommends
supplementation when applicable.
CHIROPRACTIC AND INTEGRATIVE CARE
Headaches of all varieties – primary
headaches like migraine and tension-type headache – are frequent
complaints brought to the Baton Rouge chiropractor. Research stated
that complementary and integrative medicine - nutrition, movement (yoga),
manual therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage,
biofeedback, meditation, and mind-body strategies – was beneficial.
More specifically, spinal manipulation, chiropractic care,
some supplements, diet change and hydrotherapy are reported helpful
for migraine headache. (4)
