The Mediterranean diet that requires, of all things, eating. Spine & Sports Rehab Center asks “How hard can eating be for Baton Rouge knee pain relief?”

Baton Rouge OSTEOARTHRITIS SUFFERERS AND THEIR PAIN

Baton Rouge knee osteoarthritis is common. There are many Baton Rouge knee pain sufferers. They’re not alone! 240 million people around the world suffer with osteoarthritis. That bothers about 10% of men and 18% of women. (1) Any Baton Rouge knee osteoarthritis sufferer knows about the knee pain, the morning stiffness, and the creaky joint motion that reduces the enjoyment of daily life. (1) It’s just not very fun. Now a Mediterranean diet has potential to be fun though!

WHAT TO EAT ON A MEDITERRANEAN DIET

The Mediterranean diet includes eating lots of fruits and vegetable, legumes and nuts, cereals and seeds, seafood and fish. The Mediterranean diet permits moderate intake of dairy, poultry and eggs as well as red wine and olive oil as the central source of dietary lipids. (1) Yum! Consuming a Mediterranean diet can be very tasty and adventurous for a new Mediterranean diet follower.

BENEFITS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET

Knee osteoarthritis involves inflammation as well as pain. An analysis of 3 research reports points out that biomarkers of inflammation and cartilage degradation because of osteoarthritis decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (1) Particularly, the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1α decreased in the Mediterranean diet group. (2) Knee osteoarthritis patients who stuck to a Mediterranean diet show a reduced risk of worsening knee pain at four years follow up. For those who did not have knee osteoarthritis at the beginning of the 4 years project and followed a Mediterranean diet, a 9% reduced risk of getting knee osteoarthritis was found. (3) Overall, a higher adherence to a Mediterranean diet is associated with better quality of life and decreased pain, disability and depressive symptoms. (4)
