Dizziness is a problem. Alone, dizziness can be upsetting,
but it can also affect balance and contribute to falls.
Dizziness with related cervical spine disc degeneration can be
a problem for folks of an older age. Spine & Sports Rehab Center shares
new research about chronic neck pain and its relationship
to dizziness as well as the role Baton Rouge chiropractic care plays
in relief of neck pain and oftentimes
related dizziness.
CERVICAL SPINE DISC DEGENERATION AND DIZZINESS
Patients with chronic neck pain due
to cervical degenerative disease often have dizziness as well
as neck pain. Many existing studies, both clinical and
basic science, describe the connection of cervical
disc degeneration and dizziness. A recent study indicated that cervicogenic general dizziness was diagnosed in 89% of these patients. Inappropriate neck postures
over long time periods may be a factor
when there is existing degenerative cervical disc disease. Men and women have different
triggers for their dizziness. For example, farming, gardening, and
weeding may trigger general dizziness, particularly
in older women. (1) Surgeons reporting on a new
surgical approach to relieving chronic neck pain pointed out
that current clinical and immunohistochemical studies strongly suggested
that chronic neck pain and intractable dizziness arose from degenerated
cervical spine discs. The dizziness occurred with only
cervical disc degeneration alone without cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy.
(2) Such degenerative disc disease
in the neck also has been found to be accompanied by inflammation, specifically
inflammatory cytokines that trigger mechanoreceptors like the
Ruffini corpuscles in degenerated discs resulting in
dizziness. The good news: a majority of patients
with cervical disc disease and related dizziness find conservative treatment to be
effective for them. (3) Spine & Sports Rehab Center is the home for
conservative chiropractic care of Baton Rouge neck pain and degenerated
cervical discs.
CHIROPRACTIC CONSERVATIVE CARE FOR
DIZZINESS
An Australian study of chiropractic care
of neck pain patients who also reported dizziness found
that chiropractic is frequently utilized by these
patients to handle their neck pain. One in five people over age 70
years experienced neck pain. 57.3% of chiropractors said
that the neck pain and related dizziness was moderately
responsive to their chiropractic conservative care. (4) Spine & Sports Rehab Center utilizes
the Cox® Technic System of Spinal Pain Management in treating cervical disc degeneration
and its related Baton Rouge neck pain.
