Baton Rouge CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Strengthen the Quadratus Lumborum

The quadratus lumborum – a quadrilateral-shaped muscle - is a paired muscle on the left and right side of the abdominal wall. It’s a deep muscle and typically thought of as a back muscle as it stretches from the upper 4 lumbar vertebrae to the 12th rib. When contracted, the quadratus lumborum causes lateral flexion of the lumbar spine and/or rise of the pelvis. (5) Several bridge-type exercises are being studied about the way in which they strengthen the quadratus lumborum’s two layers of muscle in order for it to best add to the motor control of the lumbar pain and prevent back pain. (6) Spine & Sports Rehab Center and you can discuss how your spine may benefit from such exercise at your next Baton Rouge chiropractic visit to Spine & Sports Rehab Center.
